As one of the most influential and accomplished attorneys in Nevada, Gerald M. Gordon remains a prominent figure in the courtroom and business community. Throughout his three decades of legal service, the business restructuring and bankruptcy department has become synonymous with business restructuring and bankruptcy in Nevada. Mr. Gordon has been voted countless times among the “Best Lawyers” in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights Law and received the highest Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating for his ethics and legal ability.
A certified specialist in business bankruptcy law by the American Bankruptcy Board of Certification, Mr. Gordon has lectured extensively on both gaming and non-gaming related bankruptcy issues including before the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges as well as authored such titles as Basic Bankruptcy in Nevada and Creditors’ Rights and Protection of Security Interest in Bankruptcy. Mr. Gordon also co-authored Bankruptcy Trends in the Gaming Field, published in the Journal of Bankruptcy Law and Practice, May/June 2001 ed.
As chairperson of the business restructuring and bankruptcy department, Mr. Gordon has either been lead counsel or integrally involved in all aspects of complex insolvencies. Mr. Gordon and the business restructuring and bankruptcy department has acted as lead debtor's counsel for several major resort properties, including the Silver Bird Hotel & Casino, Landmark Hotel & Casino, Stratosphere Hotel & Casino, Maxim Hotel & Casino, Aladdin Hotel & Casino, Riviera Hotel & Casino, Fitzgerald’s Gaming Corporation and American Wagering (Leroy's Sports Book). Mr. Gordon’s diverse practice knowledge includes representing the debtor and debtor in possession or operating trustees in other significant non-gaming proceedings such as Sunworld International Airways, Pegasus Gold Corporation, Carson Wayne Newton and Mega-C Power Corporation.
Creditor representations have included Key Bank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo/Foothill Capital Corporation, Credit Suisse, Nevada State Bank and Harrah's Entertainment Corporation in such matters as National Airlines, Enron, London Fog, MaxJet Airlines and Lake Las Vegas bankruptcies.
Mr. Gordon is known for his generosity and involvement in community organizations. Over the past 30 years, he has served as a member of various charitable and service boards, including the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas and as past president of Congregation Ner Tamid.
Admitted to practice law in Nevada, Mr. Gordon holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of California at Los Angeles and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
